In the spring of 1997, on a small makeshift loft in Phu Nhuan, Saigon, hydraulic engineer Ton Thanh Nghia, and six artisans embarked on a journey to create value from a childhood passion.

During his youth, the sea always had a mysterious allure for him. He loved everything related to the ocean - closing his eyes to listen to the rhythmic waves and feeling the salty breeze on his skin. He enjoyed walking barefoot on the sand, playing in the cool seawater, and collecting seashells and snail shells with exceptional passion.

After becoming a father and achieving success as a market leader in the button industry, he spent over ten years accompanying a Japanese medical team that performed free cleft lip and palate surgeries for Vietnamese children.
Throughout this time, he and his daughter, Ton Nu Xuan Quyen, harbored a deep desire to create a meaningful commemorative gift. In 2019, the unique BLUSAIGON pearl pen was born in the relentless creativity of this father-daughter duo.
ECO-FRIENDLY MATERIALS

(Haliotis Laevigata)
Australian abalone
Australian abalone (Haliotis Laevigata) is also used as an inlay material in BLUSAIGON products. This species, with its creamy color, has two wild varieties: Green Lip and Black Lip. The Green Lip, known for its distinctive green hue, is commonly used for inlaying wooden handcrafted furniture and making jewelry, while the Black Lip is more suited for medicinal purposes. Similarly, Chilean abalone (Concholepas concholepas) shares similar colors, size, and thickness with Australian abalone, though its outer shell is more matte. Chilean abalone shells are used for inlaying wood and making buttons with thinner shells.

(Pinctada Margaritifera)
Black Pearl
Black pearls (Pinctada Margaritifera) are one of the materials BLUSAIGON uses for inlaying its products. These pearls are naturally cultivated in Tahiti and the Cook Islands, known for their mysterious black color and unique luster, earning them the reputation as the most expensive pearls on the planet. Although their shells are thinner and smaller, they still exhibit exceptionally vibrant colors. To ensure their vivid hues, the shells are harvested after only a single seeding, unlike the usual two or three. Due to their dark, elegant tones, black pearl shells are primarily used in high-end jewelry and for making buttons.

(Pinctada Maxima)
The White/Yellow Pearl
White/Golden pearls (Pinctada Maxima) are found along the northern coast of Australia. Growing in crystal-clear blue waters, the white or golden hues of the pearl shells reflect the natural environment in which they form. The nacre's light-reflecting properties create a subtle, natural pinkish sheen. Thanks to this unique feature, white/golden pearl shells are used in the production of watches, jewelry, pearl buttons, and in the pearl inlay industry.

Potamilus Alatus
Found in the Mississippi River in the U.S., pink pearls (Potamilus Alatus) are known for their distinct pink color, as their name suggests. The inner part of the shell is a deep pink, and when the outer layer is removed, a lighter pink tone appears. Thanks to this unique characteristic, their pink hue is used in a manner similar to white/golden pearls.

(Tectus Niloticus)
Trochus snail
Along the shores of the Indian and Pacific Oceans, the Trochus shell (Tectus Niloticus) is another material selected by BLUSAIGON. With its creamy white pearls and a thick, durable nacre layer, the shell is regarded as nearly perfect. Classified into three size categories, it is primarily used for pearl buttons on luxury garments and for decorative purposes.

(Turbo Marmoratus)
Turban snail
Traveling to the tropical ocean regions of Japan and the Pacific, the Green Turban shell (Turbo Marmoratus) stands out as a uniquely distinctive material. Its white nacre is beautifully complemented by green and pink patches, making the Green Turban shell quite special. Due to its considerable size, it is used in wood inlay and to enhance the color of naturally dark woods.
