SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
The Numbers Speak Volume

In 2021, a staggering 353 million tons of plastic waste were generated, but only 9% was recycled, 19% was incinerated, and nearly 50% ended up in regulated landfills, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Alarmingly, 22% of plastic waste was managed in unregulated landfills, openly burned, or leaked into the environment. The OECD report also pointed out that plastic accounted for 3.4% of global greenhouse gas emissions in 2019.

Our society's "addiction to plastic and nylon consumption" has polluted the food chain, directly impacted human health, reduced biodiversity, worsened climate change, and poses serious risks for large-scale environmental damage.

As we work to boost the economy and protect the environment, the global shift is moving toward circular economy models, stepping away from the old linear systems. The focus is now on sustainable production and consumption, where resources are reused in a closed-loop process, aiming to cut down on waste and reduce the environmental footprint.

In line with this sustainable approach, BLUSAIGON has developed pens made from natural mother-of-pearl. These pens not only showcase the timeless beauty of traditional shell inlay but are also eco-friendly and safe for both the environment and human health.
At BLUSAIGON, we’ve done away with the idea of “end-of-life” products—where something eventually loses its value and can't be used anymore. Right from the start, we use sustainable materials and advanced nano-coating technology to ensure every pen is built to last and retain its value over time.

Like many other types of plastic, plastic ballpoint pens can take anywhere from 500 to 1,000 years to fully decompose. First, it’s important to differentiate between biodegradation and degradation. Biodegradation is the process where organic materials break down into simpler substances under the action of bacteria. On the other hand, degradation refers to the breaking down of larger materials into smaller ones. In this case, plastics can break down into tiny particles known as microplastics. Over time, these microplastics can accumulate in the food chain, affecting both wildlife and humans.
With a lifespan of up to 20 years, BLUSAIGON's pens are designed to last, using sustainable materials that help reduce plastic waste in the environment.
TAKE ACTION

Always keep a pen with you so you don’t have to use plastic pens at work or events.

Please don’t toss your pen in the trash; it’ll just end up in a landfill for years!

Encourage kids and students to choose more sustainable options. They can really make a difference in our consumption habits.
If we all make an effort to think carefully about what we buy and use, we can create positive change for ourselves and future generations.
